Canoe Race August 7th, 2017 PACARC Members to Participate
The East Texas River Runners will host the annual
Neches River Wilderness
Canoe Race on August 5th. Participants in several race classes
will begin
the course just below the dam at Lake Palestine at 0800 hrs and continue
downstream 23 miles to the US Hwy 79 bridge. There are two access
points to
the river between the start and the finish where spectators can watch
the
event. Checkpoint #1 is located at the Cuney Bridge crossing.
Checkpoint
#2 is at the Carey Lake Road crossing. Rest stops with food, water
and
medical personnel as well as emergency communications are located at
these
checkpoints. Ham radio operators have customarily manned portable
stations
at the start line, both checkpoints and at the finish line. Ham
radio
operators who participate will receive complimentary T-shirts,
hamburgers
and watermelon.
